How does Pit Book know I'm in the stall?
When the meat is between about 140 and 180°F and has climbed less than 3°F an hour over the last 45 minutes, that's the stall: moisture evaporating off the surface is cooling it about as fast as the pit heats it. The chart shades the stall in yellow. It ends on its own, or sooner if you wrap.
Why doesn't it show a finish time?
It needs at least three meat temperatures over 15 minutes or more to see how fast the meat is climbing, and it won't guess during the stall. The estimate is a straight line at the current pace, so treat it as a guide: tough cuts are done when they're probe-tender, not at a number.
What do I need for MEATER?
A MEATER account, and the MEATER app (or a MEATER Block) connected to your probe, since that's what sends its temperatures to MEATER Cloud. Connect your account in Pit Book's Settings, then pick the probe when you start a cook. Pit Book reads it about twice a minute while that cook is open on the screen, and keeps the screen on so it keeps reading. MEATER's service only gives the temperatures right now, so readings from while Pit Book was closed can't be filled in later.
A recipe site won't import. What can I do?
Pit Book reads the recipe that sites publish for search engines, which most recipe sites do. If a page doesn't have one, tap Add It by Hand: the link is kept with the recipe so you can open the page from it.
I logged a wrong temperature or event. Can I fix it?
Yes. Tap an entry under What Happened to change its note or time, or swipe it away. Wrong temperatures can be swiped away in the Temperature Log.
Where are my pictures?
Inside Pit Book, with the cook they belong to; they aren't added to your photo library. Open a picture and use Share to save or send it.
Will my cooks move to a new phone?
Restoring your phone's backup (iCloud or Google) to the new phone brings them along. Optional sign-in and cloud backup are on the way.
